Q's & A's

If you would like to ask a Question and have it answered on the Academy web site e-mail me at theridingacdemy@hotmail.com .

Q I am going to a Dude Ranch soon and they suggest that we take a couple lessons. Can I take only a few lessons at The Riding Academy?

A Of course you can! We a lot of students that ride for short periods of time.

~

Q Hi, I am interested in taking riding lessons. So far this is the only academy that I've been able to find that offers what I would consider complete training simply because of the written materials that accompanies the lessons. With that, I am willing to make the drive from Victorville.
I know that you advertise lessons for all ages but my question is do you have many adults that are out for the first time?

A Hello, Thank you for question. Yes, we have a considerable number of adults that are taking riding lessons. Most of them are 1st timers or have not ridden in a long time.

~

Q We are going to get a horse for my daughter. What level do you think she should be at, before we get her one?

A I think level 4 or 5 is a great level for her and make sure she also does the Guardianship Program, too. If you bought a horse for her while she is in levels 1-3 she would out grow the beginning type horse she would need at that level and the Guardianship Program would show her that there is more then grooming, saddling and riding to owning a horse!

~

Q  My Daughter has a learning disability and so she has trouble with written tests. Do you do anything special for student with disabilities?

A  Yes, She can have her level tests orally and/or divided into sections. We also do not take off for misspelled words if she chooses to do her level tests written.

~

Q  Can I pick the horse that I am going to ride when I first start taking lessons?

A   In the first several lessons you will be assigned a horse by your riding instructor.  After, you have gained a basic knowledge, you my ask to switch to another lesson horse as long as the horse is rated for your level.

~

Q  My daughter takes lesson once a week and would like to be involved more but we do not want to buy her a horse, what can I do?

A  We have several programs that she can do that are free or have nominal fees.

Guardianship program: where they get to groom and clean the horse's stall.

Monthly shows: where they get to win ribbons.

Monthly Special Lesson: where they get to learn such things are driving a horse and cart.

Monthly trail riding for level 4+ students.

Add vaulting lessons: that include demos and shows

Go to our yearly show party.

Join the carrot club.

Be a IA Volunteer: where you get to be an Instructor's assistant.

See out Volunteer Page for volunteers that are needed.

~

Q  My daughter just passed level 1, we would like to celebrate. Do you have any ideas?

A  We have quite a few parents or spouses that celebrate by going out to dinner and/or getting the student a gift. Like her own helmet, grooming tools and bucket or 1/2 chaps.  This way the student feels she has earned the gifts.

~

Q  I just moved to Menifee and would like to start taking riding lessons at The Riding Academy, I have taken lessons before. Would I have to take an evaluation lesson?

A  No, as long as you did not mind starting in Level 1, you would be able to move up the levels quickly.  We have had students that have made it in to Level 4 in less than 9 lessons.

~

Q  Do I have to switch horses when I am in level 3?

A  Yes and No

Yes, if you are riding a lesson horse not rated for level 3.

No, if you are riding a horse that is rated as a level 3 horse. Remember, that if you have tested on the same horse two times in a row, to switch to a different horse for your next test.

~

Q  Do we still come to class if it is raining?

A  Yes, we have wonderful muddy and rainy day activates planed for when the weather is poor. Some of the actives are painting the parts of the horse on a real horse and Horse Jeopardy.  See our Rainy and Muddy Day

~

Q  What did the Academy horses get for Christmas?

A  All the horses at The Academy received apples, carrots, and home made oatmeal cookies. Academy horses also get the week off too!
